Five Parsecs Planetfall - Letter to the Administrator

My excitement to start a 5PFH campaign got almost immediately stymied upon seeing that a new side game for it featuring colony founding adventures was in the works, as I may have mentioned already. I still have some ideas for the main campaign in the future, but having a more structured colony style game got me a lot more excited immediately. It also means from a practical perspective I can round out my terrain supply in a more structured way, as well as getting my 15mm models painted up in a way of "I need these ones next" on a slower, more pre-planned way given rather than multiple lists of possible opponents, there's only ever 3 "Tactical Threats" that appear at set intervals. So that helps with a slower more structured collection growth.

So having rolled up a colony, we got ourselves a Corporate Sponsored new colony on the planet of Zisa's Tear (the corporate backing giving us extra points of interest on the map before we start). I am armed with both a noticeboard and a journal, and I'd like to try and use the experience of this to experiment with RPG Journaling again too.

OFFICIAL CORRESPONDENCE

Date: 3402.11.15

From: The Board of Directors

To: Administrator Valda

Subject: Congratulations.

Administrator Valda,

Congratulations on your appointment as Administrator of Colony Welkin.

Initial planetary surveys indicate complex weather patterns and a highly variable atmosphere. Pockets of naturally occurring toxic gases have been detected in several regions; however, other areas appear stable and capable of supporting diverse flora and fauna.

Preliminary scans have also identified multiple sites suggesting the presence of precursor civilizations. Several ruins have been observed above ground, exhibiting extensive overgrowth that implies significant age and long-term abandonment.

A number of potential landing sites have been identified in proximity to these areas of interest. One site in particular has been flagged due to its close access to multiple suspected precursor structures.

Mugen Heavy Industries research division reports that the planet is rich in natural resources and assesses strong potential for sustainable population growth through the development of industry and trade. Additionally, the scientific and archaeological value of the identified ruins is considered to be of high strategic importance to the Company.

The Company recognizes your experience in planetary acquisition and colonization and is prepared to grant you discretion in personnel selection, provided that no less than half of all colonists are drawn from existing Company Assets.

We look forward to your initial reports.

Good luck,

The Board of Directors
